Cialis® is the brand name of tadalafil. In addition to the active ingredient, tadalafil, Cialis® contains the following inactive ingredients: croscarmellose sodium, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hypromellose, iron oxide, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, talc, titanium dioxide, and triacetin.
When taken as-needed and at a higher dose, Cialis® typically starts working within 30-60 minutes, so you will need to take it about an hour before sex to give it time to kick in. However, when it is taken daily and at a lower dose of Cialis, it may take a few days to build up in your system. Like many other medicines, Cialis® should not be taken in combination with nitroglycerin/nitrates for heart problems or hypertension (high blood pressure), riociguat, alpha-blockers, grapefruit juice, sildenafil, vardenafil, Adcirca®, ritonavir, doxazosin, or antifungal medicines.
Additionally, the following drugs can increase the effects of Cialis® by altering the drug’s metabolism: ketoconazole, erythromycin, itraconazole, rifampin, and clarithromycin.
You should not take Cialis® if you are taking any of the medicines listed above or have any of the following health conditions: moderate to severe liver disease, moderate to severe kidney disease, retinitis pigmentosa, sickle cell anemia, or certain heart problems such as advanced congestive heart failure or a recent myocardial infarction.
